For new clients, we recommend you book in for our Free Hair Consultation, before booking your first appointment with us. This time (about 15 minutes) will give us a chance to meet you, talk about your hair and make plan. At this consultation, we will also do a patch test to ensure you will have no adverse reaction to our colour. We will also provide the timing and quote for your appointment.

What is a patch test?

Our patch test is the simple procedure of mixing up a very small amount of the colour we plan to use during your appointment. We then dab a small spot behind your ear or in the crease of your arm. You can wipe it off after 30-45 minutes and you only need to contact us if you have any reaction. It is just one small step to ensure your time at Soma is stress free.

You might notice that many of our colour prices are not a set price but rather a starting point. Depending on the length or thickness of your hair, we may have to use extra product during your colour. We will always tell you this in your initial consultation and add it into the quote.

Meet the Stylists

In the Salon, we have three Senior Stylists and two Junior Stylists. With such a talented group of women, we feel certain we can find the perfect Stylist for you and your hair. All cut prices include a full Shampoo and Blow Wave. Please note, there is an additional charge of $15.00 if you would like your hair straightened or curled. Mandy

Salon Director

Mandy has been a Stylist for 25 years. After a few years working in America and England, she moved to New Zealand in 2002 and bought a small salon in Howick and a year later, bought the beauty clinic next door. In 2006 she merged them and opened Soma Day Spa & Salon. Mandy is a cutting specialist and is passionate about short hair, bobs and curls.

Kirsty

Senior Stylist

Kirsty has been a Stylist for over 20 years and has been at Soma for 10. Kirsty plays a significant role in mentoring and training  our younger Stylists, providing her experience and expertise in all aspects of hairdressing. When you book an appointment with Kirsty, you can expect the best Soma has to offer.

Katherine

Senior Stylist

Kat has been a Stylist for 8 years and at Soma for 6. She is constantly learning, undertaking many training courses over the years and having just completed her final exam for Redken Colour Authority. Kat is a busy Stylist, creating bright blondes and warm brunettes and coppers. She is also the go to for bright, rainbow colours.

Michaela

Colourist/Junior Stylist

Michaela started her career at Soma, 5 years ago, as a Beauty Therapist. While she loves beauty, she also has a passion for hair and thrives in the busy salon environment. She spent many hours in lockdown working on the basics and has spent this year perfecting her talents. We can’t wait to see what next year brings!

Does your hair need a treatment?

If your hair has become dry or damaged, from colour, the sun or environmental factors, then YES! Using either our Goldwell or Kerasilk Masks, in combination with a finishing balm or serum, we aim to hydrate, strengthen and restore your hair. We recommend an in-salon treatment after every colour service to help hydrate, strenghten and reduce colour fade.

Meet the Therapists

In the Beauty Clinic, we have five Beauty Therapists. With a wide range of experience, passion and talent, we guarantee you will leave feeling relaxed and pampered.

Rachel

Rachel has been in the Beauty industry for 30 years and has been at Soma for nearly 10. She is our only electrolysis technician and brings significant training experience to our young therapists, having been a tutor for a beauty school here in Auckland.

Sheryl

Sheryl has been with Soma for eight years and has worked in beauty therapy for over 30 years. She loves to indulge her clients in rest and relaxation and can provide you with the most luxurious facial experience.

Michaela

Michaela began her Beauty career 5 years ago at Soma. She is fast and efficient in all waxing treatments yet provides calm and relaxing facial and spa treatments. About a year and a half ago, Michaela began her training as a Colourist/Junior Stylist in the Salon and while she spends a majority of her time in there, you can still find her in a Beauty room most Saturdays.

Natasha

Natasha has been in the beauty industry for several years. After training and working in South Africa as a beauty therapist, her journey in New Zealand took her on a different career path. Luckily for Soma and all her clients, she missed the beauty industry and is now back where she belongs.

Evangeline

Evangeline is new to Soma but has been in the beauty industry for a few years. She orginally trained and qualified in South Africa and since moving to New Zealand has been working in a laser clinic. She is looking forward to getting back to traditional beauty therapy and is the perfect addition to our team.
